Secret FDA Memos Reveal Concerns About Genetically Modified Foods (GMOs)
FDA scientists were questioned about the potential health hazards genetically modified (GM) foods would have. Previously secret documents attained by the Alliance for Bio-Integrity’s 1998 lawsuit reveal that our food experts were very concerned that GM foods carried “serious health hazards.” They unofficially concluded that GM foods lead to “different risks” for consumers than untreated foods. However, official the official policy came to the opposite conclusion, and even went on to claim that there were no significant differences. This ruling allowed for the companies producing GM foods to release their products to market without official testing.
These advances for GM foods through the FDA were headlined by Michael Taylor- whose previous employment was a Monsanto attorney. In July of this year, Obama appointed Taylor as America’s food safety czar.
There is a general concensus that the recent rise in some chronic illnesses – such as asthma, autism, diabetes, allergies, and accellerated aging – seems to correlate with the consumption of GM foods. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine conducted animal studies that found similiar results. Dr. P. M. Bhargava reviewed 600 scientific journals and concluded the same. Eight international experts looked over the evaluations of GM food safety by private GM companies and created a report detailing how these companies have “systematically overlook[ed] the side effects,” and underestimated “the initial signs of diseases like cancer and diseases of the hormonal, immune, nervous and reproductive systems, among others.”
We aren’t given the chance to be represented by a group of publicly elected officials on a matter that effects the whole nation. That being the case, we must take the responsibility to alert our peers of the potential health hazards of GM foods. Without consumers, major GM companies like a Monsanto won’t have the means to wend their products into the general populace’s homes.

All of the ‘Stockpiled GM Seeds’ should be destroyed; before this insane system wreaks further havoc on the health of every man, woman, & child. Thank-You D.Forbes

Enough of corporate GREED. Our natural food crops are as nature intended. We MUST stay in HARMONY with nature!!! Thank you.

GMO’s are labeled in europe so that people have a choice whether to buy them or not…here in the land of the free we don’t know what we are getting…Monsanto should be prosecuted for their greedy and unconscionable behavior.Best thing to do is to buy local foods from farmers who actually care. It is especially disappointing that Obama would hire this guy as food czar.

The citizens of this country should demand that these foods be labeled so that WE can make an informed choice at the grocery store and “vote” with our consumer dollars. We are paying the ultimate price–with our health–in the name of profit. Stand up Americans and take back our country. Where is the “transparency in government”? It can be found in the bucket full of lies that Obama poured on the American people in his campaign promises.

Chickens appear to be smarter than humans—-they will NOT eat G M O laced food stuffs (eg. corn) We humans need to wake up and refuse to buy (eat) that crap..

We need a return to caring for one another, protecting and being thankful for the blessings Mother Nature has provided us, not experimenting on humans to the benefit of greedy companies and people. Rachel Carlson warned us decades ago, and some of us heeded, but not enough of us. We MUST return to Nature, or our ingratitude and disconnection shall prove to incur the demise of the human race. Thank you for the information. Truth, given as much attention as untruth, always wins.

The only way to stop the proliferation of GMOs is to stop the source, i.e., the corporate culture of Monsanto. The underlings and shills of this company are largely well-meaning people, but the core of the company, the corporate culture is as toxic as it’s products from the start. Monsanto has NEVER produced anything that is life-supporting, only life damaging, and that’s the way it will remain until they can be put out of business. Probably the only way to do that is to have some entity bigger just swallow this poison pill. I think the only way this will happen is if the federal government buys out the company and buries the “intellectual property”. Otherwise, you will be fighting this medusa, cutting off heads as fast as it grows others. Strike at the heart!

LET’S GET RID OF GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOODS AND PUT LOTS OF PRESSURE ON OBAMA TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Yes I agree 100%. Stop the GM’s now before we end up with a host of uncurable diseases. Monsanto is another ponsey, putting our health on the line for a $.
People of America, do something to stop this craziest, do it now before FDA allows GMs with not labeling to poison all of our children for the sake of a $.

I have always found the GM foods suspect and opposed its approval by the FDA from the onset. Now is the time to demand Government intervention and destroy any and all seed stockpiles and replace crops where previous grown. Monsanto or any other Agro-industrial behemoth should no longer call the shot on what our Nation consumes.

We need to get an idea that can be used globally, like picketing our local supermarkets or state house, this will bring media coverage and this will be a start to get folks attention on what is important to. Monsanto is a monopoly, that must be brought down. The best way to kill a giant is to slingshot him with competition. Buy organic.
Where your dollar goes counts big time. And let our voices get heard, picket.

As long as we continue to allow corporate lobbying, their greed will continue: GM food, secret agreements between the administration and big PHARMA for health care, manadatory flu shots after the Baxter incident, etc.
Our elected officials no longer work on the behalf of citizens. Try complaining to representatives and see what response you get. They have gotten so arrogant that none of this immorality is even hidden from us.
Don’t buy GM foods, vote Congress out and join organizations that will sue corporations.

I’d say, we could maybe kill two birds with one stone if we (the damned liberal socialists) limit our consumption of food to organic only and let the republicans and the far-out right consume as much of the GMO foods they’re so eager to protect as they like. “Those who live by the seeds shall die by the seeds.” Dr. Bob

grow your own food! I have a standard size lot and grew a garden this year in a small area in my back yard. We also researched online and found out how to can stuff for future use. We were inspired to do this when we saw a program on t.v. that said it’s possible to raise enough food in a patio garden (patio pots) to feed a family of four for the summer.
We had tomatos, peppers, okra, potatos, beans, peas, lettuce, radishes, and turnip greens in a 10×10 raised garden area in our yard. Two tomato plants yielded enough tomatos for our family for the entire summer.

If we each took responsibility for the quality of self care that we want GM would go under or at least change its ways. Supply and demand baby! Be the change that you want to see.

Michael Taylor needs to be removed. He has put us all at risk and as a former attorney for Monsanto he obviously has no regard at all for public health. We need to e-mail the white house to express our concern about our health and the FDA’s role in sickening us. Meanwhile, learn how to garden and when you can’t grow it buy organic. Don’t eat anything processed – EVER.

G M foods should be labeled as such, it is outragious to foist them on American consumers without our knowledge. I do not want G M food in my diet now or ever!

I need educated. When do you know you’re buying something genetically modified. Is fresh produce GM? Is only processed food GM? How do you know???

Sue,
SOME fresh produce is genetically modified. The way to tell is to check the 4 or 5 digit code that the checkers use to ring up the produce.
If it’s a 4 digit code, it’s grown conventionally (with pesticides, etc). For example a banana would be 4011.
If it’s a 5 digit code that starts with a 9, it’s organic. Banana: 94011
It it’s a 5 digit code that starts with an 8, it’s genetically modified. Banana: 84011
