I have always found it interesting that rats and other laboratory animals are fed a 'healthy' diet. Of course it in no way resembles what they would eat in the 'wild' as it is usually powdered food.

I raised this issue at many grant review meetings (as an advocate for people with cancer), often pointing out that rats and mice don't consumer junk food, drink soda, eat candy, ignore nutrititious foods most of the time the way humans do, (especially children in the USA) and thus make less likely test subjects than is generally thought (aside from the question of using animals at all for testing). No one has an answer in the scientific community.
So it is very cool to note that the animals themselves can make really healthier choices! I love it.
