Ritalin Linked With Sudden Death of Children

Submitted by vermont on December 30, 2009 – 12:14 pm12 Comments

ritalin(NaturalNews) Research from The National Institute of Mental Health has revealed that popular Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) drugs like Ritalin are responsible for causing sudden death in many children. Study numbers indicate a 500 percent increased risk in childhood death from taking such mental health drugs.

For years, many experts, scientists, and health practitioners have speculated that ADD drugs are dangerous and can cause serious injury and death. Etta Brown, a licensed educational psychologist and author of Learning Disabilities: Understanding the Problem and Managing the Challenges explained in response to the study that drugs like Ritalin actually destroy the neural function in children’s brains. As a result, children who have undergone treatment with Ritalin will actually have a much more difficult time processing information and learning new things.

Brown also notes that Ritalin is responsible for causing a permanent tic in the face, neck, and head of many of the children who have taken or are taking it. Ironically, Ritalin is responsible for causing far more serious neurological damage than the problems it is alleged to treat. Comprehensive studies over the years have revealed that while drugs like Ritalin visibly calm children, these drugs destroy their delicate, developing nervous systems and can permanently cripple their ability to function as normal human beings.

Ritalin remains one of the primary drugs prescribed for children with supposed behavioral problems. Rather than be encouraged to modify diet and increase exercise, children are being given drugs by their doctors instead. Increases in behavioral and learning problems among children have been increasing right alongside escalating levels of environmental toxins. Children are also spending more time at home alone while their parents work, eating greater amounts of junk food, and not getting adequate sleep.

Etta Brown, and others, suggest better nutrition, adequate sleep, and increased exercise and physical activity as a proper treatment for children with behavioral and learning disabilities. Nutrition alone is of vital importance since inadequate nutrient intake is arguably the most significant factor in children’s inability to behave and learn. Proper brain function cannot be achieved if the brain is not being fed what it needs to process information and grow.

Parental guidance in regulating and maintaining a proper lifestyle for their children is also vital if true improvement is ever to be achieved. Medical professionals, child psychologists, and others will have to come to grips with the fact that drugs are not the answer to childhood developmental problems.

  • Natural ADHD Protocol

I have been warning parents of the risks involved with putting their precious young children on a drug like Ritalin for the past 15 years. This article and many others are a good reason to reconsider and evaluate safer and more effective natural methods for dealing with a condition that may very well be a toxic condition or nutritional deficiency that has gone undetected. With the ubiquity of internet access parents have access to information about this drug and should consider the facts they find.

Here are the listed side effects of Ritalin:
    headache
    stomach pain
    loss of appetite
    trouble sleeping
    dizziness
    nausea
    vomiting
    lightheadedness
    irritability
    nervousness
    blurred vision
    dry mouth
    constipation
    drowsiness
    uncontrolled movements
    motor tics
    tremors
    Tourettes Syndrome
    verbal tics
    weight loss
    fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat
    mental/mood/behavior changes
    agitation
    aggression
    mood swings
    depression
    abnormal thoughts
    difficulty urinating
    fever
    persistent sore throat
    easy bruising/bleeding
    shortness of breathe
    chest pain
    jaw/left arm pain
    fainting
    seizures
    sudden vision changes
weakness on one side of body
    slurred speech
    confusion
    allergic reaction to drug
    itching/swelling face tongue or throat
    severe dizziness
    trouble breathing
This is not a complete list of all side effects.

This information is not top secret or accessible to doctors only. I copied it directly from my http://www.webmd.com.

I ask all parents….SERIOUSLY, are you really willing to accept these known risk factors for your child’s future.

There are natural solutions to ADHD, hyperactivity, learning disabilities, lack of focus and concentration, and behavioral disorders.

I would be happy to share my Natural ADHD Protocol with any parent.

I also recommend hair mineral analysis testing for these children to determine heavy metal toxicity, adrenal stress, thyroid function, sugar metabolism, and more.

I encourage you to find out what issues of toxicity and nutritional deficiency may be causing your child’s problems before risking their future with a drug that is far from fail safe and clearly may not be beneficial to good health.

In response to Dr. Duve’s comment: The majority of natural method’s/testing you speak of are not covered by Health Insurance. Do you have any suggestions where we could have our son evaluated without spending thousands of dollars out of pocket? Yes, I’m whining, but Natural medicine is very expensive.

Deborah – unfortunately not many conventional doctors are going to tell you that if you change to whole organic fresh fruits, vegetables, beans & lentils (the foods our bodies were designed to eat) and remove all of the processed, preserved, chemicalized, and gmo’d foods in your life, you would be amazed at the difference……childrens’ bodies cannot absorb and process all the extra “stuff” that’s in fast foods, junk foods & processed crap……their small bodies become overloaded and we end up with conditions such as ADD & ADHD. Just try it for a while and see results for yourself. We’ve raised 5 children this way and we never NEVER have to go to the doctors…..remove dairy to get rid of ear infections, coughs & congestion.
Our whole way of eating has been so tainted by businesses who want your money – including doctors! Good Luck!

In response to Deborah on Jan. 3rd:
Yes, it’s true that “disease care” insurance won’t pay for many holistic treatments, but for conventional drugs only. America is a pusher of drugs.

The best way I’ve found to advocate for myself and my family is to buy organic foods as much as I can and stay away from processed foods. There is food, and there is food products. Then people complain that organic foods are so much more expensive, to which I reply in the words of my mentor’s grandmother… “You can either pay the grocer, or pay the doctor.”

We always have choices! There are no victims, only creators.

  • In Response to Deborah on January 3:
I find it very interesting when information is shared on the side effects of conventional medical treatment and the drugs associated with the treatment, the response is about the cost of alternative/complementary healthcare compared to insurance coverage for conventional. The question I ask is which is important being healthy and well or paying the price to be unhealthy and ill? When you learn how to do your own research, ask questions and start think for yourself then you will be able to “Take Back Control of Your Health and have the financial resources needed to maintain it”.

In Response to Deborah on January 3:

You make a point that most people argue. But have you considered dropping your insurance and using that money into preventative care rather than treatment? The medical industry makes us believe that insurance is a necessity but it really isn’t. If we actually invest that money into healthy eating and maybe a gym membership, we would need much less of the doctor visitations.

While I agree with most of what Dr. Duve writes, I have to object to shielding kids from dairy products (unless there is an allergy, of course). Developing children need to some degree the nutrition that milk uniquely can provide, although raw milk (or at least organic milk) is best able to do this.

  • Nancy Reinstein PhD, RD says:

Only humans consume milk after they are weaned. Other animals don’t consume milk after weaning and are healthy with strong bones. Some racial groups such as the orientals they don’t drink milk after weaning because they stop producing the enzyme lactase needed to digest the milk sugar lactose and they are fine. Think of a Chinese restaurant – there are no dairy products. The need for milk s result of brainwashing from the Dairy Industry, which is very powerful.

I had my son on ADHD medication for years & found it wasen’t the answer either. I took him out of traditional school, where I got all the flack about his behavior, and have been homeschooling him. The first thing I did was ween him off the medication. He is doing much better. No more stomach aches, loss of appetite and weight loss. He gets regular chiropractic adjustments, takes nutritional supplements and sees a Naturalpath doctor. His diet is controlled so that he is feeding his body better food then what he had been.

The doctor gave me ritalin long time after suffering from back pain, I did not take importance to I found chronic fibromyalgia, and after evaluating and conduct a comprehensive this icon in order to feel pain, until no stamina, after many doctor visits and many tests review told me that the most appropriate to ease the pain were ritalin, vicodin or oxycodone, but I asked my doctor to prescribe me the most effective and less addictive and prescribed ritalin, have already taken this medication 2 years and though it causes some kind of anxiety I control myself properly, I have no problems so addictive, I think if they know their anxiety is effective restraint, this is good because these narcotics findrxonline indicate that opioids can be very dangerous.
