Gardasil Researcher Speaks Out
Health Freedom Alliance have been skeptical in the past about giving young girls the new HPV vaccine. It now seems we are joined in our criticism by one of the lead researchers for the Merck drug who is speaking out about its risks, benefits and aggressive marketing.
Dr. Diane Harper says young girls and their parents should receive more complete warnings before receiving the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. Dr. Harper helped design and carry out the Phase II and Phase III safety and effectiveness studies to get Gardasil approved, and authored many of the published, scholarly papers about it. She has been a paid speaker and consultant to Merck. It’s highly unusual for a researcher to publicly criticize a medicine or vaccine she helped get approved. Dr. Harper joins a number of consumer watchdogs, vaccine safety advocates, and parents who question the vaccine’s risk-versus-benefit profile. She says data available for Gardasil shows that it lasts five years; there is no data showing that it remains effective beyond five years. This raises questions about the CDC’s recommendation that the series of shots be given to girls as young as 11-years old. “If we vaccinate 11 year olds and the protection doesn’t last… we’ve put them at harm from side effects, small but real, for no benefit,” says Dr. Harper. “The benefit to public health is nothing, there is no reduction in cervical cancers, they are just postponed, unless the protection lasts for at least 15 years, and over 70% of all sexually active females of all ages are vaccinated.” She also says that enough serious side effects have been reported after Gardasil use that the vaccine could prove riskier than the cervical cancer it purports to prevent. Cervical cancer is usually entirely curable when detected early through normal Pap screenings.
Dr. Scott Ratner and his wife, who’s also a physician, expressed similar concerns as Dr. Harper in an interview with CBS News last year. One of their teenage daughters became severely ill after her first dose of Gardasil. Dr. Ratner says she’d have been better off getting cervical cancer than the vaccination. “My daughter went from a varsity lacrosse player at Choate to a chronically ill, steroid-dependent patient with autoimmune myofasciitis. I’ve had to ask myself why I let my eldest of three daughters get an unproven vaccine against a few strains of a nonlethal virus that can be dealt with in more effective ways.”
Merck and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention maintain Gardasil is safe and effective, and that adequate warnings are provided, cautioning about soreness at the injection site and risk of fainting after vaccination. A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found while the overall risk of side effects appears to be comparable to other vaccines, Gardasil has a higher incidence of blood clots reported. Merck says it continues to have confidence in Gardasil’s safety profile. Merck also says it’s looking into cases of ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, reported after vaccination. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Merck and the CDC say there is currently no evidence that Gardasil caused ALS in the cases reported. Merck is also monitoring the number of deaths reported after Gardasil: at least 32. Merck and CDC says it’s unclear whether the deaths were related to the vaccine, and that just because patients died after the shots doesn’t mean the shots were necessarily to blame.
According to Dr. Harper, assessing the true adverse event risk of Gardasil, and comparing it to the risk of cervical cancer can be tricky and complex. “The number of women who die from cervical cancer in the US every year is small but real. It is small because of the success of the Pap screening program.”
“The risks of serious adverse events including death reported after Gardasil use in (the JAMA article by CDC’s Dr. Barbara Slade) were 3.4/100,000 doses distributed. The rate of serious adverse events on par with the death rate of cervical cancer. Gardasil has been associated with at least as many serious adverse events as there are deaths from cervical cancer developing each year. Indeed, the risks of vaccination are underreported in Slade’s article, as they are based on a denominator of doses distributed from Merck’s warehouse. Up to a third of those doses may be in refrigerators waiting to be dispensed as the autumn onslaught of vaccine messages is sent home to parents the first day of school. Should the denominator in Dr. Slade’s work be adjusted to account for this, and then divided by three for the number of women who would receive all three doses, the incidence rate of serious adverse events increases up to five fold. How does a parent value that information,” said Harper.
Dr. Harper agrees with Merck and the CDC that Gardasil is safe for most girls and women. But she says the side effects reported so far call for more complete disclosure to patients. She says they should be told that protection from the vaccination might not last long enough to provide a cancer protection benefit, and that its risks – “small but real” – could occur more often than the cervical cancer itself would.
“Parents and women must know that deaths occurred. Not all deaths that have been reported were represented in Dr. Slade’s work, one-third of the death reports were unavailable to the CDC, leaving the parents of the deceased teenagers in despair that the CDC is ignoring the very rare but real occurrences that need not have happened if parents were given information stating that there are real, but small risks of death surrounding the administration of Gardasil.”
She also worries that Merck’s aggressive marketing of the vaccine may have given women a false sense of security. “The future expectations women hold because they have received free doses of Gardasil purchased by philanthropic foundations, by public health agencies or covered by insurance is the true threat to cervical cancer in the future. Should women stop Pap screening after vaccination, the cervical cancer rate will actually increase per year. Should women believe this is preventive for all cancers – something never stated, but often inferred by many in the population– a reduction in all health care will compound our current health crisis. Should Gardasil not be effective for more than 15 years, the most costly public health experiment in cancer control will have failed miserably.”
CDC continues to recommend Gardasil for girls and young women. The agency says the vaccine’s benefits outweigh its risks and that it is an important tool in fighting a serious cancer.
Dr. Harper says the risk-benefit analysis for Gardasil in other countries may shape up differently than what she believes is true in the US. “Of course, in developing countries where there is no safety Pap screening for women repeatedly over their lifetimes, the risks of serious adverse events may be acceptable as the incidence rate of cervical cancer is five to 12 times higher than in the US, dwarfing the risk of death reported after Gardasil.”

I have thought from the beginning that GARDASIL is the governments form of ‘population control’ which would cause young women to become sterile. These poor young women. I am glad I am over the age that would require or encourage a government controlled vaccination such as GARDASIL. I would run far and fast if the government insists that this vaccine will help ward off cervical cancer. This targeted female population is a SCIENCE PROJECT/EXPERIMENT and will affect the future in a terrible way.
I am certainly not one to defend Gardasil, but your argument makes absolutely no sense.
A government that is supported by a capitalist economy has no incentive to institute population control. Their largest constituents (companies like Merck) want to have a larger customer base and more people within the country’s borders generally means an increase in revenue from tax. You’ll have a hard time finding a Malthusian in a government seat. Countries like China are an exception, where the cost of supporting a population has some balancing point with the revenue generated from that poulation.
There are also far less costly and easier methods of population control than making the population infertile. Tax policy would be the most obvious. But, as it stands, we reward our citizens with tax breaks when they have more children. I’m sorry, but there is absolutely nothing to support your paranoia and nearly everything refutes it.
Anytime a pharmaceutical company encourages a whole generation of women to submit to a drug intervention…RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! Hormone Replacement Therapy made a boatload of money for Big Pharma and killed a whole lot of female baby boomers before they were found out. Now they are salivating at the prospect of vaccinating girls as young as 11. How many of them will be sacrificed while billions of dollars will line the pockets of the pharmaceutical industry before they are found out again..And when they are found out, they will give back a fraction of the amount made and walk away with their gangster profits.

Some of my clients are victims of Gardasil. The therapy process for them is long but very helpful and non-invasive. I wonder if the drug companies will ever tell the truth about this? I wonder if the women of America will ever recover from this nightmare? Before you take any drug, know what your body is going to be subjected to.
Jeremy, your rebuttal would make sense if indeed the government was #1 sovereign and #2 actually supported by true capitalism.
What Christine appears to be aware of is the UN agenda to reduce the global population to 500 million by the year 2050. As there are now over 6 billion, that represents an over 90% reduction. Depopulation is to be accomplished through disease, starvation, and calamity. (Resolution 2000) The US is NOT a sovereign nation – no UN member nations are. In fact, although it has not been fully implemented, the UN has jurisdiction over our tax laws, civil rights, and other legislation.
What do you think the health care bill is really about? Healthcare? It’s the next step in a system of forced compliance and micro-chipping of all citizens. They leave the supposed tax incentive for multiple children in place because it helps keep people compliant, but on the sidelines, real efforts are implemented to make that perceived benefit of no consequence to their ultimate goal of depopulation.

The version of capitalism that most of the media spouts, and that you and millions of other people define as capitalism, is actually corporatism. And while it looks kind of like capitalism, it really isn’t. Capitalism is about individual risk and wealth building. Corporatism is about the confiscation of wealth from the masses.Corporatism does not build on real capital. It is built entirely on debt and is owned by straw men.
If I have 10 chickens and those 10 chickens produce eggs and more chickens, the increase from the original 10 is real property and is my profit. This is a recourse that helps sustain real life and that I can trade for other products that help sustain real life. If one of my chickens cause damage to a neighbor’s property, I am personally liable for that damage and can be sued for it. I must reinstate the condition of my neighbors property to the condition it was in before it was damaged. I am a capitalist, risking real assets in the hope of gaining more real assets.
A corporation, however, is an illusion. It risks no real assets. It only risks the promise or perception of assets, which are in reality debt. The corporation exists only on paper. Oh sure, there may be a building with that corporation’s name on it, but that building is NOT the corporation. If people who are employed by this essentially non-existent entity cause harm, they are not personally liable. The corporation is and can be sued, however, they only have to pay a penalty in a transference of pretend assets to the injured party(ies). They do not have to restore anything except in the case (sometimes) of public property damage, as in the Valdez oil spill in Alaska. (And frankly, Exxon did a poor job of clean up and hasn’t really been held responsible for total restoration.)
Sudden and drastic depopulation measures attract too much attention (unless they’re disguised as calamities – Google HAARP and Scalar Weaponry). You have to boil the frog slowly or he jumps out of the beaker. Bottom line: Christine is right. You’re not as informed as she is, but there’s a remedy for that.

To anyone with the ability to THINK, most vaccination is a plague. It is a plague supported by “government” “Medical Officialdom” “big pharma” and others, some well meaning, ignorant of the truth.
Any drug that is aggressively marketed, as Gardisil is, immediately generates my suspicion. The scary thing about the drug industry is how much influence they seem to have over our minds and public health policy. Beware the “mind viruses” created by Big Pharma and the advertising industry.
I am appalled at the fact that freedom of speech has evolved into freedom of false information. Even this article which I agree with completely, speaks of Gardisil as preventing cervical cancer. Gardisil is not a preventative for cervical cancer, it is a vaccine against two forms of HPV. Why is this fact so important? Because if you do your research, and as the mother of a teenage daughter whose friends all received the vaccine, I did, you will see a much clearer picture. There are many forms of HPV. This vaccine prevents two of them. I am not even sure if both are related to cervical cancer, but at least one is. Other forms of HPV are related to cervical cancer but the vaccine does not prevent those. The other fact is that not all cervical cancers come from HPV, so those are not protected. Now, given those facts we find out that the only girls who actually have shown a correlation between HPV and cervical cancer are those who are immune compromised, not everyone. Add that to the fact that cervical cancer is a relatively rare cancer, and in most cases easily treatable. My own casual survey of people in passing – everyone I spoke to knew dozens of people who had breast cancer, but only one person, including doctors I spoke to, knew of a case of cervical cancer. So what is the scare about? I understand wanting to protect your children, but don’t people question anything? Or wait to see if a new vaccine is safe?

Cervical cancer was on the wayne in Australia prior to the introduction of the Gardasil vaccine.
In time, it’s certain the decline in this species of cancer will be attributed to Gardasil vaccinations where in fact it might be a result of the natural decline in this disease which is already happening.

The “vaccine” deception goes deeper. We have NO evidence this “vaccine” does ANYTHING to effect cervical cancer one way or the other. It may very well INCREASE cervical cancer. It is all UNPROVEN largely UNDOCUMENTED theory.
We are supposed to trust the makers of “vaccines”.
Do we still trust Baxter Labs after they put the deadly H5N1 live virus into 170 pounds, many millions of doses, of “seasonal flu vaccine”? Had this not been detected by ONE of the seventeen countries receiving the deadly “seasonal flu vaccine” we would have a deadly H5N1 man made epidemic instead of the mild H1N1 man made epidemic. The absence of childhood mumps has been linked to higher risks of ovarian cancer. Now we see ovarian cancer itself has spawned another vaccine the extremely risky (Over 10,000 adverse reactions reported as of 5 MAR 2009) HPV vaccine. Folks when will it end? It won’t until we wise up.
When mumps was attempted to be introduced into the “vaccination schedule” in 1992 it was concluded there was no need, mumps was a harmless childhood malady and “vaccinating” for it would cause more harm than good. Yet somehow it WAS added to the deadly MMR “vaccine”. Now those young women “vaccinated” with the deadly MMR are having ovarian cancer. Why did the political override the medical folks? Why does the political ALWAYS override the medical? Cause and effect folks, cause and effect?
