Vermont Takes Action to Resist FDA Take Over With a Resolution All Should Adopt

Submitted by on January 13, 2011 – 9:31 pm38 Comments

In the face of the recent passing by the senate of the ‘food safety’ bill H.R.2751, previously S. 510, that will put the FDA in control of the nations food supply,Vermont citizens have made a declaration that the agency and government have no right to determine or restrict the food choices of the People of Vermont. “The Vermont Resolution for Food Sovereignty” was brought forth by the Vermont Coalition for Food Sovereignty, it makes a statement to the United States government and the FDA that all citizens who want to protect their freedom of food should stand behind.

The Vermont Resolution for Food Sovereignty

WHEREAS All people are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, and among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; and

WHEREAS Food is human sustenance and is the fundamental prerequisite to life; and

WHEREAS The basis of human sustenance rests on the ability of all people to save seed, grow, process, consume and exchange food and farm products; and

WHEREAS We the People of Vermont, have an obligation to protect these rights as is the Common and Natural Law; and in recognition of the State’s proud agricultural heritage; and the necessity of agricultural, ecological and economic diversity and sustainability to a free and healthy Society;

THEREFORE, Be it resolved, that We The People, stand on our rights under the 10th Amendment to the US Constitution and reject such Federal decrees, statutes, regulations or corporate practices that threaten our basic human right to save seed, grow, process, consume and exchange food and farm products within the State of Vermont; and,

Be it further resolved, that We The People, shall resist any and all infringements upon these rights, from whatever sources that are contrary to the rights of the People of the State of Vermont.

This Resolution is a clear and timely reminder of our rights as humans on this Earth and citizens of a country that was to be based on the freedom to live full, prosperous lives. We live in a Democracy? When you do a simple search of the bill that this resolution stands against, the top links are to articles talking about what a devious and dangerous act it is, ‘a snake hissing in the grass’. The people spoke out heavily against S.510 so fervently that the passing was done in an underhanded, undemocratic way. Pushed through in a late night proceeding right before Christmas and hidden in a spending bill (http://healthfreedoms.org/2010/12/21/republicans-democrats-collude-to-pass-food-safety-bill/), it was forced to passing by those in office in order that they may gain more power.

On the Coalition’s site, http://vermontfoodsovereignty.net/, they call for preemptive action to protect the small farms of Vermont. The determined and protective mindset is nothing new to the state which has made other respectable decisions that have preserved the beauty of their land and health of its people. Vermont tops the 2010 results of Americas health ranking, something that can be attributed to ideals that keep its capital of Montpeiler the only one in the U.S. without a McDonalds.

Vermont’s strengths include its number one position for all health determinants combined which includes ranking in the top 10 states for a high rate of high school graduation, a low violent crime rate, a low percentage of children in poverty, high per capita public health funding, a low rate of uninsured population and ready availability of primary care physicians. Vermont’s two challenges are low immunization coverage with 89.8 percent of children ages 19 to 35 months receiving recommended immunizations and a high prevalence of binge drinking at 17.3 percent of the population. (http://www.americashealthrankings.org/measure/2010/overall.aspx)

Having low immunization coverage is something that should be seen as an achievement, not a challenge and seeing as they are the healthiest state it seems that the citizens are making educated decisions about what they put into their bodies. Now they are taking action to protect a local and healthy food supply by rejecting the ‘Food Safety Act’.  May the country stand behind this Resolution and encourage their own local leaders to adopt the same kinds of values. Visit the Coalition’s site and learn how you can get involved!

Way to go Vermont. Keep it up!!! I’m not from tour state but
everyone I have talked to doesn’t want obamacare no way shape or form

  • John W. Blalock says:

    I,part of `We the People`, thank you.

  • It’s a great resolution, but what are you going to do when the pudgy little SWAT wannabes wearing BDUs and brandishing automatic weapons show up to enforce the will of their predatory overlords?

I hope you have retained the services of a few retired and bored special forces operatives to repel the impending assaults.

  • deenie says:

I think Vermont’s low immunization record is too high. Vaccinations have never been proven to be safe or effective, so why bother? Unless you want to be on the autism spectrum, get cancer, be filled with heavy metals-formaldehyde-squalene-wild viruses, and other assorted junk, you should just avoid any and all jabs. There is no such thing as herd immunity. Do not allow yourself to be conned by feeling like you’re putting your family at risk by not getting the shot.
Way to go, Vermont! Preemptive action against the agents of death is a great idea. I hope the other states quickly get on board.

  • Protonius says:

The article notes that this bill was “Pushed through in a late not proceeding right before Christmas”. I assume that the word “not” is a typo, as it the bull — er, I mean “bill” — was pushed through in a late NIGHT proceeding.

But then again, maybe this was a “NOT” proceeding after all — as in “should NOT have been allowed” and “should NOT have been done to the American people” and “should NOT have any place in a democracy”.

There must be ways for each and every state to pass more than a “resolution” against this law. Are there any constitutional lawyers out there who can come up with a way that would permit the state legislatures to take legitimate action that would BLOCK AND OVERRIDE the application, in those states, of this bad law?

  • Chris (Conant) says:

The FDA is owned and operated by the same Corporate Oligarcy that owns and operates the rest of our Federal Government; and most of the members of Congresss. The Citizens of Vermont are wise. It is unfortunate that this country is in this situation, but we must take it back person by person, commmunity by community, state by state, and finally the Federal government.

AND BY THE WAY: Guns will not be needed, so Gun Manufactures, etc. you need not ramp up production.

  • Jean House says:

Wau to go Vermont. Thanks also to above commenters. I concur!

  • SteveI says:

My wife and I use supplements, try to eat organically grown food, avoid commercial chemical fertilizers on our yard and gardens, and purchase raw milk from a mom-and-pop dairy. We applaud Vermont’s determination to stand up against Washington’s attempt to re-determine our inalienable rights. Amen! and Bravo!

Now, would everyone be careful to avoid calling our wonderful Republic a Democracy. ALL of the Washington idiots want to “further Democracy”; same as all the Marxist-Leninists. Right words, and wrong ones, have consequences.

  • Jane D says:

The FDA and the corporate agribusiness giants like Monsanto think that they can force Americans to eat whatever they want them to regardless of its toxic properties. Americans have a right to food that comes from natural seeds, without pesticides. Way to go Vermont. Hope other states follow suit.

Do the people of the United States of America finally get it. Never in the history have 53% of the voters put in a Muslim Communist president. He and his Marxist czars and George Soros will never give up. The next two years we must stop everything this foreign born Kenyan from destroying and making America a police state !!!!!!

  • Rafe says:

Is there not some way to stop this apparent juggernaught altother, State by State?

  • Malibu Kim says:

I’m right there with you, Deenie! Some people just don’t know how dangerous vaccines really are. Eat organic (shop at your local farmer’s market), drink clean water, exercise, get sunshine exposure/Vitamin D3, drink herbal teas and check out alternative therapies, i.e. aromatherapy, homeopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture, bodywork and energy work. There are so many good-feeling ways to heal yourself instead of submitting to torture by toxic chemicals.

  • Pat Ormsby says:

Bravo to Vermont! This is an inspiration other states should follow. All concerned people should be pushing for similar resolutions in their own states.

  • Susan says:

AWESOME – sure home my home state does the same – know that we voted AGAINST that horrible bill.

    GO Vermont GO !!!!

  • Czerny says:

Hey, Chris, I agreed with you until “AND BY THE WAY.” You’ve undermined your position with irrelevant bias against guns.

And by the way, could it be that Vermont has a low violent crime rate because of its liberal gun laws which give its law-abiding wise citizens a means of self-defense and crime deterrence?

Stick to the topic at hand instead of sneaking in comments which make you sound obsessional.

  • BadLaw says:

That’s is the most ridiculous this I have ever read. How in anyway shape or form is that a “Bad” law? That is the most insane thing I have ever heard

  • Will Tuttle says:

This is so heartening! I am thrilled that the people of Vermont are showing this good old fashioned New England spirit of independence and sanity in face of oppression and massive ignorance. Thank you people of Vermont! Now let’s go, the rest of us!

  • M. Ghost Dancer Wene says:

He who controls the food, controls the popuation.

I grow and have grown 95% of the produce we consume, the other 5% is as organic as can be found locally. What is grown in our approx. 2000 sq. ft. of gardens and greenhouse are chemical free.

For over 50 yrs. I have home preserved/dried 95% of the food that is eaten in our home. Why? because I do not want all the chemicals, preservatives, etc. that are in processed foods. I do not want foods that have been grown with chemical fertilizers, sprayed with chemicals, irridated, genetically modified, etc…

  • E. Lewis says:

Bravo, Vermont, for taking effective action. Protesting alone has not gotten us very far. It is our divine birthright to be healthy and therefore we need access to information on natural health care, free choice of food and medical alternatives. The example of Vermont is the first step to save our nation. Thank you, Vermont!

  • I HAD PREDICTED ABOUT THIS 10 YEARS AGO.
I HAD SAID THEN – A DAY WILL COME WHEN YOU WILL NEED DOCTOR’S
PRESCRIPTION TO BUY YOUR VEGETABLES AND FRUITS.

    * FIRST THEY MADE CHEMICAL MEDICINES, INCLUDING CARCINOGENIC
    CHEMOTHERAPY COMPULSORY.

    * THEN THEY MADE VACCINES MANDATORY.

    * THEN THEY SAID VITAMINS ARE DRUGS AND MADE VITAMIN C DISAPPEAR,
BECAUSE IT CURES CANCER AND CANCER IS A BIG BUSINESS.

    * THEN THEY ATTACKED HERBS.

    * THEY ARE ALSO AGAINST HOMEOPATHY AND OTHER SAFER, CHEAPER,
    EFFECTIVE DRUGLESS THERAPIES.

    * AND NOW THIS, AS I HAD PREDICTED.

AFTER THIS, THEY WILL SAY, YOU NEED DOCTOR’S CHIT TO BUY A BOTTLE
OF WATER AND HE NEEDS TO CHECK THAT WATER AND ONLY THEN YOU CAN DRINK IT. IN THE MEANTIME YOU WILL DIE OF DEHYDRATION.

THEN OF COURSE THE DOCTOR WILL HAVE TO CERTIFY ABOUT THE AIR YOU BREATHE. PERHAPS A DAY MAY COME WHEN YOU WILL HAVE TO ASK THE DOCTOR WHETHER SEX IS SAFE OR MASTURBATION IS SAFER.

I AM HAPPY THAT YOU HAVE TAKEN UP THE STAND.
I THINK AMERICA IS REALLY GOING BERSERK.

TAKE CHARGE. REMOVE ALL MAD MEN RULING YOU, IMMEDIATELY.
NEXT TIME BEFORE ELECTING YOUR PRESIDENT OR GOVERNORS DO THEIR IQ, EQ, SQ AND BACKGROUND CHECK.

Thank you Vermont for leading the way, hope the rest of the states will follow. At 79 yrs of age, I still mow my grass, trim trees and do carpenter work and painting on my home by eating organic foods, multi filtered inoized water and take a regumine of supplements. I am a cancer survivor, keep my type 2 diabetes under control. My life,my choice-so gov. leave me alone.

Great work, Vermont! Let’s keep it going and expand it to include the stopping of Chemtrails as well. The importance of clean, unpoisoned air has to become paramount.

Respectfully, guns are ALWAYS needed as insurance against tyranny if nothing else.

Clearly we are on the road to the most brutal technological driven tyranny in the history of this brutal world. Incidentally Arizona was only another engineered “Gun Tragedy” in the battle to grab our guns.

Canada is watching you Vermont! We’re supporting you as we are in the same stupid position! We are not backing down. We are not giving in or giving up! You are an inspiration to the rest of the world! And the statistics speak for themselves – which is why the Elites want you gone. The dog days are over: the dinosaur age has had it’s time.

  • Audra says:

There sure is. It’s already being done by 14 (15?) states with medical marijuana legislation, and in roughly half the states in regards to the Real ID Act.

It’s called nullification or interposition, if you prefer. It was used by northern states to fight the Fugitive Slave Act, among other things.

There’s a great, easy-to-read book about it called, wait for it, Nullification. :) Penned by Dr. Thomas E. Woods, Jr.

Amen to that Stevel – our system of government is a Republic and I wish people would start calling it what it is. Just like it’s the Democrat party, not the Democratic party.

All of the foods, vitamins, herbs and everything else you spoke of

Every citizen in every county that grows any kind of food for humans or animals should be taking up this cause!!! Many counties and local governments have and are enacting bans on the planting of GMOS. And many states have passed laws PREEMPTING local governments from doing so!! FIGHT BACK, even if you states has passed such a law you can fight it.

    http://www.social-ecology.org/2010/05/the-potentials-and-pitfalls-of-town-meeting-advocacy/

We must take this fight to the streets. The federal government refuses to uphold the will of the 90% of Americans that do not want GMO in the food (and feed supply?). In light of this is not the only recourse now to stand up and petition our local governments to take action?

I do, and I am, stay tuned. I am awake now and taking action. Won’t you join me?

This is great news. Good to see that in times of hardship people are drawing on the common law argument. I hope it works as it will be a blueprint for the rest of the world to follow, and is one of the last remaining options we have.
