The FDA Comes to the Rescue of Big Pharma

Big Pharma’s drug patents are beginning to run out, opening the door for Little Pharma (smaller, lesser known pharmaceutical makers) to manufacture generic drugs at lower prices. Ideally, more people would avoid the use of harmful drugs, but for those who depend on them it would be a giant financial relief, right?
Unfortunately, someone wants to pick up the money slack. Big Pharma was bleeding via the lost patents wound, so sister FDA took around 500 generic drugs off the market before Little Pharma could get to them. Big Pharma has the money to get them reapproved, guess who doesn’t? Big Pharma, you’ve just won Monopoly! Pass Go and collect all your pumped up profits… As the author below says, “ If you can’t patent your way into a monopoly, simply run the competition out of town. ”

It appears that Big Pharma has an unlimited number of tricks up its sleeve. From millions and millions of dollars poured into the pockets of regulators and politicians to the subsidization of medical schools and the doctors they churn out, Big Pharma is a force to be reckoned with. However, recently Big Pharma has engaged in a battle plan that few would have expected — an attack on Little Pharma.
In an article published by Techdirt, Dave Fuchs points out that more and more patents held by Big Pharma are beginning to run out. What this means is that Little Pharma may now make generic versions of the same drug and place them on the market at a much lower price. Aside from the fact that the vast majority (if not all) of these drugs are toxic and harmful, the good news is that for those people who consume them the price will go down.
At least, the price is supposed to go down.
That’s where Big Pharma and its sister organization, the FDA, come in. Actually, in this case, the ball is in the FDA’s court. That’s why, in 2010, the FDA removed close to 500 generic drugs off the market.
Of course, we should all bear in mind that removing these drugs only hurts Little Pharma, since Big Pharma can continue making the previously patented drug at enormous profits. However, while Big Pharma no longer has the patent process to protect their business interests, it now has something almost as good — the absence of Little Pharma. After all, competition is a sin from the point of view of major international corporations including those that make the toxic cocktails we now call medicine. If you can’t patent your way into a monopoly, simply run the competition out of town.
Regardless, with Big Pharma now in control of virtually the entire market, they are able to maintain and raise their prices at will. Certainly, this will come in handy once ObamaCare comes into full effect.
As every American is forced to buy private insurance complete with death panels and “cost-effective” measures, there is no doubt that Big Pharma will continue to raise the prices of its drugs. One can already hear the chorus of government bureaucrats, talking heads, and bioethicists who will be screaming that the insurance we were forced to buy can no longer afford the expensive medicines that no longer exist in generic form.
In the end, the removal of these drugs from the market is not a victory for consumer safety, nor is it a victory for the natural supplement industry. The FDA did not come to the rescue of the American consumer, it came to the rescue of Big Pharma.

Healthcare now has nothing to do with the unscrupulous and scurrilous FDA actions and their bosses Big Pharma.
If that has it pitfalls fix it. Don’t act as if the President had something to do with it.

Who knows maybe not being able to buy drugs, can become a great opportunity for people to get smart and use nutrition and food to heal themselves.

Thanks for your comment and the neat Herophilus quote. You are right when you say that it is not Obama Care and that the president isn’t responsible for the FDA/Big Pharma machine. The current health care measures and the FDA/Big Pharma giants are mechanisms that have been in place and steadily growing for a long, long time. The author is pointing out that the FDA/Big Pharma control paves the way for the new healthcare measures (and you could say vice versa).
In my opinion the FDA is acting as Power Broker for Big Pharma by way of ObamaCare. This is not a coincidence at all. Check every law, they all have a Power Broker or lobby group attached to it. I work in politics and this is how it is done. The only way to fix it is to stop ObamaCare because that bill will never include my choice for health care. Instead of wasting my money on health insurance for the past 30 years, I spent my money wisely. Preventative natural medicine, non GMO food, chemical free lifestyle and in rare cases a natural doctor for advice and treatment. As a result, I have a healthy 92 year old father who never goes to the doctor due to chelation therapy that saved his life 20 years ago, cleaned his arteries and regulated his blood pressure. My husband is cured of diabetes and my adopted child is free of every ail the she had when she was a child of the state. No longer does she see a quack doctor 40 times a year. I would not have been able to invest in our health if I were forced to invest in big Pharma and Insurance companies instead. Plus, $20,000 in the bank saved. All of which would have been handed over to an insurance company.
Some people need generic drugs at 4 bucks a pop. With Obamacare the tax payers and insurance holders will be forced to pay hundreds for the same 2 cent drug.
I am tired of powerless undeducated people preaching “for the good of all”. ObamaCare is an invasion of my freedom to choose what is best for my health and my bottom line, period.
We can only remember that these nut jobs are not only distroying Our world but their OWN too.
I can’t wait till they find out there is no REAL food for them to eat
either.

Well said – as a world we need to take responsibility for our own health. Medications will not replace the body’s ability to heal itself.
The FDA was doing their best to aid Big Pharma long before Obamacare. They would like to control our food, our drugs, our lives and this latest trick has shown their goals are not about safety for the public, but rather how many more billions can we make by tying the hands of the citizens of the USA
Please! the whole “death panel” thing has been debunked so many times. Please get your information from somewhere else than fox news. Try googling “death panel myth” – 12.5 million hits.
The root cause of this problem is the revolving door between the medical profession, health care academia and government. Most if not all of the FDA bureaucrats either have worked for Big Pharma or will work for them. The solution to this problem is the enactment of tough new laws that create legal firewalls between government and the health care private sector. There is legal precedent for this: the laws enacted in the 1970s that protected the taxpayer from conflict of interest in the defense/aerospace industry. It’s time for those kinds of laws to be applied to the FDA.
as I have noted before M is right. I am an AF brat and employee and spouse. Our “revolving door was closed in the 1960′s and 1970′s. I also was a USDA clerk in upstate NY in the mid sixties. Back then AG did not have a revolving door, but that was when Secretary Butz changed the rules.

For some people…people with diabetes, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, epilepsy, high cholesterol not due to diet…and lots of other ailments, taking one’s medication IS taking responsibility for one’s health.
Recently I read of an SSRI drug trial that resulted in 8 suicides in the four days following discontinuance of the drug. The FDA solved the problem for the drug company by deciding it was only one suicide. They did this by deciding to use the first 24 hours after stopping the drug as their criteria. The worst part of the withdrawal probably had not yet started.
I cannot find that quote. Does anyone have the specifics? This would be the most damning indictment of the criminal behavior between FDA and BigPharma. Killing people for favors (money).
If anyone knows where I can find that quote, please let me know. I plan to write about thes things soon.
