RAWESOME Foods: Swat Style Multi-Agency Raid, 3 Arrests, Protest
Another raid on Rawsome Foods, Venice, California: this time it’s serious and this time it’s making huge waves across the nation as the story explodes and a protest is planned.
James Stewart (owner), Sharon Palmer (Healthy Family Farms), and Eugenie Victoria Bloch (Weston A. Price chapter leader) were arrested on counts of conspiracies regarding unpasteurized products. Stewart and Palmer’s bail is set well above $100,000 and Stewart is not allowed to post his own bond. Bloch’s is set above $60,000 and she is only a part time volunteer at Healthy Family Farms.
At 9 a.m PST, armed, swat-like agents stole cash, computers, vegetables and fruit, and dumped and destroyed raw milk and cheese. All inventory was destroyed or confiscated. This action stemmed from a year long sting operation at the taxpayers’ expense. Read on to find out how many agencies were involved in this kidnapping and theft.
Mr. Stewart will have a hearing 8 a.m. Thursday, August 4th. A massive, non-violent protest is set to take place there at L.A. County Courthouse, 210 West Temple, Division 30, Los Angeles, California. To all who can go, please arrive by 7:45 and bring cameras. Armed teams from federal, state and local agencies raided, for the second time in a year, a private food club called Rawesome today near Los Angeles. At least three have been arrested on conspiracy charges related to offering raw milk products to club members. James Stewart, a manager of the club; Victoria Bloch, a Weston A. Price Foundation chapter leader; and Sharon Palmer of Healthy Family Farm. Palmer was arrested selling raw cheese at a farmers market over two years ago and jailed for a day then. The agents also took about $10,000 in raw foods and milk in the raid.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said a Ventura County farmer, one of her employees and the owner of an unlicensed Venice market were arrested today on criminal conspiracy charges stemming from the alleged illegal production and sale of unpasteurized goat milk, goat cheese and other products. Sharon Ann Palmer, 51 (dob 04/14/1960), James Cecil Stewart, 64 (dob 07/26/1947) and Eugenie Victoria Bloch, 58 (03/17/1953) were charged in a 13-count complaint, BA 385253, which includes four conspiracy counts. Stewart and Bloch were expected to appear in Department 30 in the Foltz Criminal Justice Center Thursday for arraignment, said Deputy District Attorney Kelly Sakir of the District Attorney’s Environmental Law Section. Palmer’s arraignment hearing has not been set.
Agencies taking part in the ongoing investigation include the U.S. Food and Drug Administration; the California Franchise Tax Board; the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Milk and Dairy Food Safety Branch and the department’s Division of Measurement Standards; the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office; the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health; the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, the Ventura County Department of Public Health; the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.
Activists are planning a protest on Thursday, August 4.

Governments at all levels are going broke. All these “agencies” “swat teams” are loaded with weapons, brand new military like vehicles and NO common sense.

This is so frightening to read about – what on earth has happened to America ?
Things in the EU aren’t that great with the EU Herb “ban” as “lobbied” (pushed) for by doctors and drug companies ( even though they lie about the side effects and safety of their own drugs in serious medical journals ( as informed by Dr Marcia Angell MD – my mother died last year showing definate side effects of Avandia – no accountability for the doctor , the nurses or the drug firm , Glaxosmithkline ) .
I feel very sorry for all the people being “targetted” in America by these “agencies” and “swat teams” – so hidious and completely unneccessary – the rest of the world looks on in absolute horror – why is the American Government allowing this – don’t they realise they are killing Americans’ basic rights – something we all thought as outsiders, was at the very heart of American democracy and “the American dream”. It sounds to me like these people should have been arrested. They were buying commercial products, repackaging them, and then selling them as organic.
If that’s true, they are criminals in my book.
Barb, I looked into it. He was the previous co-owner and the members are aware of the allegations. But, those things have nothing to do with the case which is aimed at all of our food rights.
The gentleman who started the site and his own farm club was at the protest yesterday in support of food and farm freedom.
David Gumpert is imploring his readers not to get caught up in the he-said-she-said and not lose site of the much bigger issue at hand. The members of the club are happy, want their club back, and no one deserves this kind of force or stripping away of freedoms. Common criminals don’t even receive the kind of treatment (and high bails) that these folks did. Their club has been destroyed and we don’t want to see FDA swat descending on Amish farmers and farm clubs all over.
Also the farmer and owner of Rawesome have also sued the gentleman for libel so those reports may have been exaggerated. Not saying it didn’t happen but it may not be the whole story. I know that farm clubs often recycle commercial packaging too because it makes sense. Still, not why the FDA swatted them, and also not deserving of it.
I bet Mr. Harvey Washington Wiley is rolling over in is grave about now.
Welcome to the corporate states of America where congress is owned and it’s agencies are controlled by monied interests. From what I have heard the biggest and or number one industry in the united states is the medical industry. It would only make sense they would not want healthy people, especially ones who shy away from pharmaceutical. Don’t kid yourself this is all a stunt about money and the larger issue of control.
Fight people, fight! If we don’t fight for our rights now soon it will be next to impossible to gain them back without terrible terrible sacrifice. Use your voices while we still have a modicum of freedom left.
In the US you are lucky to still have some kind of raw milk option. In the early 1960s when it became compulsory to pasteurize all milk before sale my grandfather succinctly ridiculed it as, “Dead germ soup,” with most of the vital nutrients spoilt or destroyed.

I drank raw milk for years! I’m almost 78 years old and was raised on a farm. The government does not care if people kill themselves with tobacco and alcohol as well as margarine, high fructose corn syrup and GMO products, so why should they be concerned when people want natural products that harm no one and are actually good for one’s health.
The issue isn’t if these guys are selling healthy or unhealthy products, it is an issue of freedom to do as you wish. Why not spend the government resources going after Cargill who has recalled MILLIONS of pounds of contaminated ground meat, yet AGAIN. Or go after drug companies ………. “oh, we are sorry, we discontinued that drug because so many people died” ?
All I want from government is to keep the holes in the roads fixed, keep the bridges and tunnels in good repair, seal the borders, allow us to extract our own energy, stop trying to pick winners and losers, pass a flat or fair tax, kill terrorists, respect the 10th amendment, return to strict constitutional government, stop spending money we don’t have and to be left alone to do as I choose as long as I don’t infringe on the rights of others to peaceably do as they choose.
So is the key to move to a rural area, raise your own goats, make your own cheese, grow your own food so that you don’t get arrested for drinking raw milk? This is definitely a WTF? moment.
Why is this a crime? Now in Texas where our Former President lives.. and his Father and Maw, who were also president and first lady.. They see the value of drinking Raw Milk.. and there people are allowed to consume it.. So if this is the UNITED States.. how come so many different rules.. Some are allowed to benefit from good wholesome food and others forced to eat… well the opposite? I know the answer.. just wondering if anyone else does. Open your Bible and READ 1John 5:19 and tell me if you agree with what God has to reveal on the matte?
