Health Benefits of Lemon Water – Easily Detoxify

Submitted by on September 19, 2011 – 9:47 pm3 Comments

Hang on to your lemons, folks! No really, hang on to them.

Lemons have been controversial lately. In August we reported Lemonade Freedom Day in response to cops shutting down children’s lemonade stands. The USDA has seized nearly 1,000 personal lemon trees.

But when it comes to gentle detoxing and nutrition, lemons are a real life line.

Even though lemon juice is acidic, it actually alkalizes our body and cleans out the blood, liver, and kidneys. Lemons provide electrolytes. Lemons are a type of “coolant” so it makes sense we gravitate to lemon drinks in the summer. You can actually cool your body (and smell wonderful) by rubbing the juice from the fruit and peels on your wrists and neck.

Recipe idea: Make your lemonade as usual minus a cup of water. Make a lavender tea by infusing some lavender buds and add. Not only does it taste wonderful, but it is super relaxing. Plus the lavender (almost iridescent) glow makes a beautiful beverage.

Tip: The article below suggest using lemon juice in petroleum jelly. We want to avoid petro-chemicals (that in this case are more like a liquid cellophane and don’t actually moisturize). Try using the lemon in a natural oil or balm instead.

Health Benefits of Lemon Water

Lemon has a strong uplifting, refreshing scent. When you think of lemon, you might think of tangy sweetness of summer-time lemonade. Haven’t you ever heard of the old saying “When life throws you lemon make lemonade?” Let’s make it lemon water instead! It is good to note that lemon water has fantastic health benefits for your long term health. There are some uses of lemon water that you would have never thought of. Every day, we consume caffeinated coffee as a pick-me-up in the morning, sodas, tea and other highly acidic drinks that aren’t necessarily good for you. Lemon water is a good source of vitamin C and antioxidants. It also contains vitamins (such as vitamin B, riboflavin), minerals (such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus), proteins and carbohydrates. Lemons are highly acidic but they contain the good acids that your body needs. Your body has a fine PH balance that must be maintained. If your body is not alkaline, as it should be, then you could have a series of health problems from heartburn and acid reflux that many suffer with on a daily basis; digestive issues, and irregularity. An acidic body can wreak havoc on your allergies, especially if you are an asthmatic, or suffer from frequent headaches.

I already Intuitively knew that lemon water was good for you but now I know more why. I actually got rid of my kidney stones using a concoction of lemon water and olive oil. I also knew that just because a food has acid in it doesn’t mean it’s makes the body acidic. Again this was a nice affirmation of what I already knew but couldn’t remember the source. In any case it’s super easy to incorporate this into your diet. Personally I have a lemon tree with the best tasting lemons I’ve ever had. Short of growing your own you can buy a bag of lemons and use a lemon/orange juice squeaser. With my lemon water i use about half a lemon so i usually add stevia a healthy herb sweeter that is also good for brain function. Also for oranges you don’t need to drink it straight but can add water and ice. It makes a nice much healthier and most often a cheaper alternative to buying juices. This way u get much more pulp which has fiber and other nutrients than if you buy the juices that are often pastuerized. It’s a pretty simple health rule but as an axiom we should go raw fresh whenever there is good oportunity to do so. If you simply keep the idea in the back of your mind the oportunities will present themselves.

Once again coffee gets lumped into the unhealthy category even though some amazing health benefits come from it. When are natural health followers going to wake up and stop demonizing coffee?

    It helps type diabetes.

It has shown to reduce several types of cancer, mainly colon.

And the most amazing is it prevents and even reverses dementia, Parkinsons and Alzheimer’s.

I am a lemon water drinker but I make sure I get my five cups of coffee a day also.

I agree that Lemon has all these amazing health benefits and use it frequently but I question the suggestion of applying it directly on one’s teeth as it wears away tooth enamel. Does anyone have more information on this?
