Victoria Soto – A Beloved Teacher and Hero
According to witness accounts, Victoria Soto was a hero as she reportedly shielded her first grade students from Adam Lanza’s gunfire with her own body. Once she became aware that there was a gunman at the school, Victoria Soto hid her first-graders in closets and cabinets, then told the shooter they were in the gym. While none of her students were harmed due to her courageous action, Victoria Soto was shot and killed by Adam Lanza.
While the family of Victoria Soto are in mourning over their loss, Carlee Soto, sister of Victoria Soto, said in a tweet:
“Hug your loved ones an (sic) tell them how much you love them because you never know when you’ll see them again. Do this in honor of Vicki.”
Victoria reportedly was ushering her students into the class closet to hide from the shooter, Adam Lanza, when Lanza entered the room. Victoria Soto then came face-to-face with the gunman and shielded her class from the shooting using her own body.
According to Jim Wiltsie, a cousin of Victoria Soto, said, “She put herself between the gunman and the children and that’s when she was tragically shot and killed. I’m just proud that Vicki had the instincts to protect her kids from harm. It brings peace to know that Vicki was doing what she loved, protecting the children and in our eyes she’s a hero.”
